Copenhagen 30-09-05
An open letter to”referee” Matthew David Messias
You sir, are a disgrace to the game of football in general and to your profession in particular.
Your performance last night (29-09-05) in the UEFA first round game between F.C Copenhagen and Hamburger Sports Verein was at best an abysmally poor effort and at worst, a criminal offence.
You showed the whole world why you no longer referee in the Premier League. Were your goal to put yourself on the centre stage, you succeeded perfectly. With a score of ridiculous verdicts you set yourself firmly in the centre of focus for your crowning achievement, not one but two penalties only visible to your eyes. One of which you had the audacity to award our opponents 3 minutes into overtime and thus robbing us of our place in the group stage of the UEFA cup and making a mockery of our valiant efforts in the process.
There can be no excuse for your dismal performance and although I doubt the UEFA officials will do anything about it, I sincerely hope that you will be decommissioned and that the police will initiate a criminal investigation.
I know that you probably don’t care about me, my letter to you, my club or the tens of thousands of fans you have frustrated, cheated and robbed but God damm it, you ought to care.
If there is an ounce of decency in your body, you will hang up your whistle and never take to the field again. To atone for what you have done is, unfortunately, not possible and neither is to undo what is done.
You have crushed my dreams and hopes for my football team and your name will forever be synonymous with a job performed ludicrously poor.
Should you, on future vacations crave a decent place to sleep, a good meal and friendly treatment by the locals, I suggest you stay clear of Copenhagen as you will find none of it here.
Your status as a joke is now known beyond the British borders.
Unfortunately the joke is on me. And it isn’t funny.
Worst wishes
Stampe – disillusioned football fan.
